2016: A Year in Music

Photography by Tyler Moon

Winter

January 2016.  I started the year off in the middle of finishing Lions on the Beach.  After mixing, and mastering the album in the fall, winter was about going the distance and FINISHING something I was proud of, and finally sharing it with the world.

Our Mic was a game-changer for me this year.  Meeting all of you kind and crazy spirits in our little safe-haven of creativity has been a blessing.  To new friends, learning with each other, and more creating more!

Spring

On March 4th, I released Lions on the Beach, finally sharing my songs with the world.  The Huffington Post actually called it "Pet Sounds for the millennial generation."  As most of you know, Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys are my heroes and Pet Sounds is one of my favorite albums of all time.  So yeah, pretty cray.

That same week, I debuted Lions on the Beach with my band at The Hotel Cafe, LA's premier songwriter venue.  The Hotel Cafe is where artists like John Mayer and Katy Perry all got their big breaks.  I imagine a lot of things, but I never imagined I'd eversell out a venue.  You guys are the best.

Then I finally came home to SF to perform for a lot of you guys for the first time after 3 years in LA.  Years ago at my desk in Menlo Park, I made a mental note that the #1 Thing to Do in SF Before You Die (out of 100) was to see your friend's album release show at Hotel Utah.
We can all die happy now haha.

Have you ever done an interview in mandarin for your first time on TV?  Well, I did.  I got to do a lot of interviews – sharing why I went from brooks brothers to busking among other fun facts.

Summer

Crescendo Ice Cream printed my Santa Barbara lyric on their ice cream cups!  Then I partnered with VAVA Sound (the speaker passed my Coachella test with flying colors).

Now in case you're wondering, "has Peter been writing new music since his album release?"
Have no fear!  I have indeed been making new music – including an electronic yoga song, theme song for a web series, and hip hop track – and collaborated with some awesome people on live shows and videos.

Fall

In November, I got to take Lions on the Beach on tour across the country, hitting up my musical cities – SF, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville, and Denver.  In December I even was able to perform at a jazz club in Taipei – which basically means I'm an international sensation now xp.
